 WellSolve Horse Feeds from Purina Mills

Land O’Lakes Purina Feed LLC recently released two new Purina Mills® horse feeds under its WellSolve line of products, and Karsten's Horse & Pet has both IN STOCK! The newly released products, WellSolve L/S™ and WellSolve W/C™, are feeds intended for horses with special needs. Both products are being marketed primarily to veterinarians, so they can make recommendations to owners whose horses may need special diets.

WellSolve L/S is a low starch and sugar feed, with soluble carbohydrate levels of less than 11 percent. Studies conducted at LongView Animal Nutrition Center revealed that horses who ate WellSolve L/S had a peak glucose response of 91.61mg/dL, while the peak insulin response was 0.52ng/mL, both of which are considered to be fasting range by many laboratories. This means “their glucose and insulin levels appear as if the horse had not eaten a meal,” said Dr. Mary Beth Gordon, director of Research and New Product Development, Purina Mills Horse Business Group.

WellSolve W/C is a weight control feed that eliminates unnecessary calories from a horse’s diet without compromising health, while keeping the horse satisfied with natural flavors and a large meal without the calories. Once again, controlled studies conducted at LongView Animal Nutrition Center found encouraging results, as horses fed WellSolve W/C with no exercise averaged more than 50 pounds of weight loss after 12 weeks. Horses that exercised and ate WellSolve W/C averaged weight loss of more than 90 pounds after 12 weeks. These results make WellSolve W/C the only product on the market proven to support weight loss in controlled scientific studies.
